Hyperphosphatemia in a patient with Candida sepsis.

چکیده
Hb F, some of which is glycated (2), accounts for the majority (70%–95%) of Hb species in newborns. About 5%– 30% is Hb A, with none to trace amounts of Hb A1c. This patient’s sample was collected after transfusion of 2 aliquots of red blood cells from a single donor. The donor’s blood contained 12.6% Hb A1c. Concentrated glucose in blood storage media increases donor Hb A1c only minimally (3, 4 ), which suggests that the donor had poorly controlled diabetes. Blood transfusion can confound interpretation of Hb profiles.

Evaluation of "Candida score" in critically ill patients: a prospective, multicenter, observational, cohort study
INTRODUCTION Although prompt initiation of appropriate antifungal therapy is essential for the control of invasive Candida infections and an improvement of prognosis, early diagnosis of invasive candidiasis remains a challenge and criteria for starting empirical antifungal therapy in ICU patients are poorly defined. Some scoring systems, such as the "Candida score" could help physicians to diff...
متن کاملCONCISE REVIEWS OF PEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASES Nosocomial Neonatal Candidiasis
As the survival of our smallest, most immature patients has increased, a concurrent increase in the length of stay on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the risk of nosocomial infection has been observed. In a representative cohort of 6000 very low birth weight (VLBW) infants (401–1500 g), 21% had blood culture-proved late onset sepsis (defined as sepsis occurring after 3 days of age)....
متن کاملCandida glabrata Sepsis in an Immunocompetent Individual: A Case Report
Candidaemia accounts for a significant proportion of systemic fungal infections, with Candida glabrata (C. glabrata) becoming prominent in recent decades. We describe a unique case where postoperative urinary retention and C. glabrata UTI led to invasive fungaemia with bladder necrosis. A 37-year-old previously well nulliparous woman underwent an elective diagnostic laparoscopy, hysteroscopy di...
متن کاملRapid Detection of Pediatric Bacteriuria Using Narrow Angle Forward Laser Scattering Technology (NAFLST) with Bacterioscan
Background. Candida species are the fourth leading cause of nosocomial bloodstream infections in the United States, however incidence is low and most patients who receive empiric treatment do not actually have candidemia. Unfortunately, detection, identification and susceptibility testing using standard instrumented blood culture systems and routine microbiological techniques takes 4–10 days. A...
متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis caused by multidrug-resistant Candida albicans in a patient with myelodysplasia syndrome: A case report and literature review
Background and Purpose: Candida endocarditis is an infrequent disease with a high mortality rate, which commonly occurs in immunosuppressed patients with cardiac valve replacement. We reported a 70-year-old woman diagnosed with Candida prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). This study also involved a review of all published cases of Candida PVE from 1970. Case report: Herein, we reported a 70-ye...
